The Republic of Korea became the 18thmember country to join IA-HEV in spring 2013. Three representatives from Korea attended the IA-HEV Executive Committee (ExCo) and Task 1 meetings in late April.

IA-HEV welcomes Korea as a leader in “green” car technology, with a strong program in developing hybrid and electric vehicles. Korea’s goal is to supply 1 million EVs to drive on the nation's roads by 2020 and emerge as a global “Top 4” EV powerhouse. Korea also has a national vision of reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 8 million tons by the end of 2015, and by a total of 25 million tons by the end of 2020. The country also aims for energy savings of 15 million barrels of oil by 2015 and 42 million barrels of oil by the end of 2020.
