Steps to join IA-HEV

IEA Implementing Agreements

IA-HEV offers two types of membership: Contracting Parties and Sponsors. The national government of a country can join IA-HEV as a Contracting Party. Research organizations, industry, and business partners may join IA-HEV as Sponsors. Both Contracting Parties and Sponsors may participate in the Tasks/Projects.

Members as of 2013 are Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, the Republic of Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, the United Kingdom and the United States.

A government can designate a different entity to represent the country as its Contracting Party. This can be any national agency, public organization, private corporation, or other entity. Those interested in joining IA-HEV will be invited to join an Executive Committee meeting as observers.

IA-HEV welcomes organizations that will both benefit from and contribute to the sharing of information and resources on hybrid and electric vehicles. Participants enjoy the following advantages from their membership:

  • Access to objective, world-wide information for governmental decision makers.

  • Transfer of the latest knowledge and experiences among government officials responsible for automotive research during semiannual IA-HEV meetings.

  • Exclusive initial access to the printed IA-HEV Annual Report, which contains the most comprehensive and up-to-date information on the status of hybrid and electric vehicles in all member countries.

  • Opportunities to participate in Tasks for in-depth projects that focus on special topics within hybrid and electric vehicles.

  • Use of the best public-sector laboratories in the world.

  • Exchanges between experts from member countries.

  • A well-informed overview of future automotive technology.

  • Sharing of best practices for implementing alternative-drive vehicle fleets.

Membership Inquiries

  • The first step in membership participation is to contact the IA-HEV Secretary-general to discuss and define options for participation. (Please note that IA-HEV membership is not open to individual persons.)

  • After the initial discussions, an exchange of letters (formal invitation, acceptance, and notification) occurs. The final step is the signing of the IA-HEV agreement.
